Biochemistry Laboratory
Biochemistry Laboratory
What is a Biochemistry Laboratory?
A Biochemistry Laboratory is one of the units in healthcare institutions that provides services for diagnosing diseases by performing biological analyses and interpreting the results of tests.
Biochemistry is the branch of science that studies the molecular structures and levels of living organisms. Biochemistry laboratories are sterile areas where this analysis is performed using cutting-edge devices. In general, the pathological and standard composition of blood, urine, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), and all other bodily fluids are analyzed here. Additionally, biochemistry laboratories play a significant role in the diagnosis and treatment processes of diseases.
Biochemistry Laboratory Sections
Biochemistry laboratories have various departments. The sections in these laboratories are as follows:
-
Administrative Department: This is the unit where all administrative tasks and processes are carried out, supervised by a biochemistry specialist. Some technicians may assist in this department as well.
-
Blood and Sample Reception: This is the department where blood, urine, stool, and other samples are collected from outpatient and inpatient patients.
-
Serum Separation: This is where blood samples undergo certain processes to be prepared for analysis.
-
Biochemical Analysis Section: General analyses are performed in this section.
-
Hormone Analysis Section: This section is dedicated to all hormone tests.
-
Urine and Stool Analysis: Separate sections for fecal and urine tests are available in biochemistry laboratories, where all stool and urine tests are carefully performed.
-
Material Washing Section: This is where laboratory materials are cleaned using sterile water.
-
Cold Storage Section: This section stores cold-chain medications and chemicals.
-
Solution and Kit Preparation Section: All necessary solutions are prepared in this section under sterile conditions. Some special kits are also made by technicians in this section.
-
Blood Gases and Electrolyte Section: This section is dedicated to the analysis of blood gases and electrolytes, in addition to other analyses performed in the laboratory.
-
Manual Test Section: This section handles tests that cannot be performed by auto-analyzers and are manually analyzed. Genetic research is also conducted here.
