Oral and Dental Health

Oral and dental health hold vital importance throughout every stage of life. Issues in this area, including aesthetic concerns, can significantly impact a person’s quality of life. Moreover, oral health problems can influence overall health. Therefore, it is crucial to trust fully equipped healthcare institutions and experienced dentists for your oral and dental care needs.

Preventive Dentistry Practices

Preventive dentistry practices are generally aimed at preserving the existing oral and dental health. A lack of proper hygienic care over the years, as well as the failure to take necessary preventive measures, plays a significant role in the deterioration of oral and dental health. For this reason, today, preventive dentistry practices are used to take necessary precautions before oral and dental health deteriorates, preventing future issues like dental decay. Preventive dentistry is especially important during childhood and adolescence. Typically, preventive dentistry applications in these age groups can include topical fluoride applications and fissure sealants, especially on molars.

Endodontics

Sometimes, deep tooth decay or trauma can damage the pulp tissue, the deepest part of the tooth, which contains nerves and blood vessels. Damage to this tissue can cause severe pain and lead to pulp diseases, or the tooth may lose vitality. If the tooth cannot retain its vitality, the nerve tissue in the center of the tooth, the pulp, must be cleaned. This treatment is known as endodontic treatment, or root canal therapy. Dentists specializing in endodontics are called endodontists. If endodontic treatments are neglected, lesions can form in the tooth roots, and even tooth loss may occur. For this reason, endodontic treatments are of significant importance for oral and dental health.

Periodontology

When it comes to oral health, the gums are just as important as the teeth. Gum health problems, sometimes as simple as gum bleeding, can lead to serious issues such as tooth loss. The branch of dentistry that deals with the diagnosis and treatment of gum diseases is called periodontology, and dentists who specialize in this field are known as periodontists. Periodontic treatments include scaling, cleaning the root surfaces of the teeth, and surgical curettage, as well as treatments for gum recession. Additionally, the diagnosis and treatment of diseases around dental implants, gum bleeding, tooth sensitivity, and bad breath are handled in the periodontology department.

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

Oral and maxillofacial surgery is a branch of surgical science concerned with all surgical interventions involving the teeth, oral tissues, jawbones, and joints. These include impacted tooth surgeries, treatment of cysts and lesions in the jawbones, implant treatments, bone graft applications to restore dimensional loss in the jawbones, treatment of jaw fractures, apical resections, and other oral-related surgeries. These procedures are carried out by specialist oral and maxillofacial surgeons under local anesthesia.

Implantology

In the past, dentures were the only solution for missing teeth. However, prosthetics for missing teeth often involved reducing healthy teeth, causing damage, and did not provide the necessary comfort for edentulous mouths. With the advent of implantology treatments, it has become possible to restore missing teeth and complete edentulism without these problems.

Implant treatments consist of two phases: the surgical phase where implants are placed in the jawbone, and the prosthetic phase where dental prostheses are applied. Implant applications are used for fixed prosthetics or to make removable dentures more stable in the mouth. With advancing technology, implant treatment is applicable to almost every case.

Aesthetic Dentistry

When dental treatments are mentioned, people typically think of treatments for decayed teeth or missing teeth. However, nowadays, smile aesthetics related to teeth and gums are also of significant importance. Tooth decay, excessive discoloration, misalignment, surface and shape defects, and gum positioning relative to teeth can negatively affect dental aesthetics. When smile aesthetics are insufficient, it can lead to negative social and psychological impacts.

Modern aesthetic dentistry practices can correct such issues. Teeth whitening treatments, composite or porcelain laminate applications, porcelain veneer applications, and gum reshaping are among the aesthetic dentistry procedures.

Prosthetics

Dental prostheses provide solutions to issues such as decayed teeth that cannot be repaired with fillings, fractured teeth, and aesthetic problems related to the structure of the tooth.

Prosthetic treatments have a broad range of applications. The first of these is tooth loss. There are two types of prosthetic applications for replacing missing teeth. The first is removable prosthetics applied to edentulous mouths or those with very few remaining teeth. The second is crowns and bridges used for situations where there is significant tooth structure loss or for cases with a few missing teeth. Crowns and bridges can be made using various materials and methods.

In addition to replacing missing teeth, prosthetics are also used for aesthetic deficiencies that cannot be addressed by other methods. Laminate porcelain is an example of aesthetic prosthetics applied in such cases. Superstructures placed on implants are also created with various prosthetic methods and are called implant-supported prostheses.

Orthodontics

Orthodontics is the branch of dentistry concerned with dental misalignments, occlusal disorders, and issues related to the relationship between the upper and lower jaws. Dentists specializing in this field are called orthodontists. Crooked and misaligned teeth are among the most bothersome issues for individuals when it comes to their smile. Additionally, gaps between teeth and misalignment of jawbones can negatively affect both the appearance of the teeth and facial aesthetics. Such problems can also affect chewing function. The most effective solution for these dental appearance and jaw structure issues is orthodontic treatment, commonly known as braces.
