What is Circumcision?
How is Cystoscopy Performed?
During cystoscopy, the bladder is filled with sterile saline solution, which expands the walls of the bladder and provides a clear view.
Before the procedure, a gel-like medication with anesthetic and lubricating effects is applied to the lower urinary tract. After waiting for 10 minutes, the procedure is performed. This ensures that patients do not experience pain or discomfort during cystoscopy.
In cases where the procedure is expected to take longer, or for male patients (as the lower urinary tract is longer in men than in women), anesthesia may be required.
Most patients can resume daily activities the next day. However, it is recommended to avoid heavy physical activities for one week.
When is Cystoscopy Used?
Cystoscopy is performed in the following cases:
- Narrowing or inflammation of the lower urinary tract (benign or malignant tumors).
- Enlarged prostate or prostate tumors.
- Bladder stones, tumors, or infections.
- Blockages in the ureters (inner urinary tracts).
- Diagnosis and treatment of urinary incontinence.
Side Effects of Cystoscopy
- Infections: Patients may develop urinary tract infections.
- Bleeding: Bleeding can occur after the procedure.
- Injury: Sudden movements by the patient during the procedure may cause perforation of the inner urinary tract.
